Warmond: recreational village
Warmond, a charming old village north of Leiden, is the ideal place for recreation. Located on the lush banks of the Kaag lakes it provides a number of water recreation possibilities. The emphasis is on sailing and leisure craft. It also features other sporting facilities including a 9-hole golf course, indoor and outdoor tennis, squash courts, fitness centre and an international snooker centre.
There are abundant opportunities for fishing, swimming, bike riding and walking. Warmond has several marinas and offers boat rental facilities. The surroundings are uniquely Dutch: "polders with windmills, lakes, and waterways with interesting birds, a nature reserve and it is close to the coast. Warmond is a typically old Dutch village with a number of historical sites amongst which are the estate Huys te Warmont and the ruins of the St. Matthew's Church. In the summer months Warmond has numerous events and fairs.
