The Green Heart
Between the big cities of Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam and Utrecht lies the Green Heart, an extensive polder landscape where the hustle and bustle of the big cities seems far away. Here you can enjoy peace and quiet, a typical Holland landscape and the many cycling and walking routes that are marked out in this region.
Within the Green Heart you will also find the historic city of Gouda, with its Sint Janskerk (St John’s church) and cheese markets, charming smaller towns such as Schoonhoven, known for its silver-making, and the attractions of Alphen aan den Rijn and Zoetermeer.
Another excellent destination for nature lovers are the Reeuwijk lakes, just north of Gouda. Here you can swim, sail, canoe, ride horses or simply enjoy being by the water.
