Holland lakes area
The Holland lakes area is situated in the northern part of the Green Heart. This area includes the Westeind, Kaag, Graassem and Nieuwkoop lakes, as well as the towns of Leiden and Alphen aan den Rijn. In addition to many watersports, you can also enjoy nature, cultural history and fine walking and cycling routes here.
A visit to the Holland lakes area is easy to combine with a trip to the nearby towns. In Leiden you will find a number of interesting museums and pleasant pavement cafes, while Gouda is also worth a visit with its beautiful Sint Janskerk (St John’s Church). When in the Green Heart, you can take advantage of the new cycling hub system that allows you to combine routes at will, with excellent public transport links taking you straight to your desired destination.
