Discovering Zuid-Holland’s converted historic buildings

For anyone in the mood for a trendy day out at a unique historic location, Zuid-Holland has plenty to choose from. In 2012, during ‘The Year of the Surviving Historic Buildings’ (Over-Levende Monumenten!), various 1-day and overnight packages will be available.
Back in time
As part of these tourist packages developed especially for this special year, visitors can discover churches, castles and other historic buildings that have been given a new function. They can combine a visit to the Jenever Museum with a delightful lunch in a windmill restaurant or the old town hall of Schiedam. Or take the ferry back into time and visit the fortified city of Gorinchem and the castle known as Slot Loevestein. Afterwards, perhaps a wonderful 3-course dinner in a trendy restaurant.
Unique overnight tourist packages
Visitors who want to spend a little longer away from home can take their choice from among the various overnight tourist packages. They can take a walk through the streets of Gouda for a look at the city’s many historic buildings, enjoy a high tea in the historic building that used to serve as an orphanage, and spend the night in a charming B&B in the centre of town. Or enjoy a tour by bicycle along the windmills on the pretty island of Voorne-Putten, spend the night at a campsite, visit a vineyard and cycle to the historic little city of Brielle for a visit to the Briels Museum (a former town hall).
The Year of the Surviving Historic Buildings!
Converted historic buildings provide unique backdrops for a trendy day out during ‘The Year of the Surviving Historic Monuments!’ These tourist packages reveal how giving these historic buildings a new function is contributing to making sure that they are preserved for future generations. These tourist packages, as well as many other daytrips, can be booked at www.zuid-holland.com.
