European Sand Sculptures Festival 2010 in Noordwijk

From 22 August to 3 October inclusive, the Koningin Wilhelmina Boulevard in Noordwijk aan Zee will form the backdrop to a very special free event: the 2010 European Sand Sculptures Festival. This year’s theme is SPACE SCULPTURES, conjuring up images of Apollo 11, Neil Armstrong, rockets, satellites, planets and aliens.
The programme
The Sand Sculptures Festival officially starts on Sunday 22 August 2010, when the best sculptors or "carvers" in Europe converge on Noordwijk to pit their creative talents against each other. They have exactly six days in which to create magnificent SPACE SCULPTURES.
The winner will be announced on Friday 27 August 2010. The sculptures will be open to the general public until Sunday 3 October 2010. The Sand Sculptures Festival is a spectacular event for young and old. As in 2009, the organisers expect to welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors to Noordwijk.
